If you've ever driven the stretch of I-49 between Alexandria and Shreveport you have probably noticed there isn't a whole lot to notice. That part of that particular roadway is sparsely populated with the exception of the city of Natchitoches. It's the home of Northwestern State University, those incredible Christmas lights,  the world's slowest fast food drive-thrus, and Mariner's Restaurant.

Unfortunately in the future, it looks as if Natchitoches will be losing one of its iconic treasures. Mariner's Restaurant has announced via Facebook that they are closing.

I have to admit it, 38 years in the restaurant business is a pretty strong run. I can't say that I have ever met the proprietors of Mariner's in person but if I did I would tell them "thank you" for a job well done.

Exactly what the future holds for Mariner's wasn't made clear in the Facebook posting. Perhaps new owners will take over the place. Maybe they will keep the same name, maybe they won't. Regardless, I will miss the good food and warm greetings that were always offered as a part of my visits to Mariner's, "Home of distinguished dining over beautiful Sibley Lake".
