A new natural gas pipeline that would replace the current 90-year-old Midla pipeline will be built. A preliminary agreement with 12 municipalities in the state will allow for Midla to rebuild and improve their current pipeline.

The pipeline, which stretches roughly 370 miles from Winnsboro, Louisiana to Natchez, Mississippi, provides natural gas for thousands of customers in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Under the preliminary agreement between the Louisiana Municipal Gas Authority and Midla not only will the 90-year-old 8-inch pipeline be replaced, it will also be replaced with a  larger 12-inch  pipeline. This will allow even more product to flow through the pipeline to customers.  Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland says there is a big difference between the 8-inch pipeline and the 12-inch pipeline.

"It's going to be a 12 inch pipeline which will help us with our new industrial park, our new port facility and our existing industries,"

Copeland's comments were reported by the Louisiana Radio Network.

This preliminary agreement must still be finalized. That action is expected to take place early next year as Midla and the municipalities involved continue to negotiate specific details of the new deal.
