Wearing a mask just got a little sweeter in the New Orleans area. And we're not talking about a Mardi Gras mask. Three of the Big Easy's Mardi Gras krewes are holding a citywide sweepstakes with a grand prize of $10,000, all for wearing a mask to combat coronavirus.

The Krewe of Red Beans, the Lucha Krewe and Krewe de Mayahuel will be randomly passing out 2,000 raffle tickets in the next two weeks to people they encounter in the city with a mask on. They will be looking for mask wearers in outdoor locations and will not announce in advance where they will be. This makes it an even more enticing proposition to mask up.

Krewe of Red Beans founder Devin De Wulf told NOLA.com “If you’re not willing to do it for science or for community, maybe you’ll do it for money.” The exact locations for the ticket giveaways are top secret, and krewe members will not be in costume, or calling any attention to themselves. Krewe members will also be offering encouragement to citizens who are not wearing a mask to tempt them to put one on.

Krewe of Red Beans is making the $10,000 donation in hopes that other "Mask Up Sweepstakes" will continue throughout the area. Check out more details on the giveaway here. The drawing will take place on August 4th.
