Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the Mississippi River flooding in south Louisiana and how the state's seafood industry is being affected.

Nungesser tells KEEL listeners that the opening pf the Morganza spillway to attempt to give relief to some areas will "devastate all of our seafood." The Lt. Governor then says, after meeting with representatives of the industry and state officials and "try to get seafood included in the national disaster relief. It's going to hurt not only the crawfish, the oyster and the crab industries, but it pushes the shrimp offshore from where they normally come in to breed."

Nungesser adds that because it has been so long since the spillway has been opened, there's no way to measure the degree of damage to the seafood industry, or how long it will take the billion dollar business to fully recover.
