Oregon State Dominates LSU, Sends Tigers To Losers Bracket
The LSU Tigers baseball team knew that they would have a tough task going up against #3 national seed Oregon State in the winner's bracket of the Corvallis Regional. The Tigers won the game against San Diego State to get into the winner's bracket. The Tigers lost control of the game early and fell to the Beavers 14-1.
The Beavers were determined to exact some revenge on the Tigers who eliminated them from the College World Series last season and needless to say there wasn't any doubt in this game for Oregon State. The Beavers who were the designated visiting team for the game started off the scoring early in the top of the first inning. The Beavers would get the first two runs off of a 2-RBI double off of Zach Hess.
The Tigers had a chance to get back in the game in the bottom of the 1st. They had the bases loaded with no outs but they ran in to a double play and then they popped up to end the inning and that's the closest that they would get the entire game.
The Beavers would add 3 runs in the 3rd inning off of an RBI single and 2 straight RBI bases loaded walks. The game would get away from the Tigers in the top of the 4th when the Beavers would score 3 more runs off of Hess before being replaced by Caleb Gilbert.
The Beavers would score 2 more off of Gilbert before the inning would come to an end. Hess pitched 3 1/3 innings while allowing 8 hits, 8 earned runs, 4 walks and he finished his pitching performance with 6 strikeouts.
Luke Heimlich, the Beavers starter would keep the Tigers scoreless until the bottom of the 4th when Jake Slaughter hit a solo home run to put the Tigers on the board. The Beavers would continue to tack on the runs in the top of the 6th on a 2-RBI triple to go up 12-1.
The Beavers would continue to pour it on in the 7th inning as they scored 2 runs, one on a solo home run and another on an RBI groundout to go up 14-1 as the Tigers fell to the loser's bracket. The Tigers will face off against Northwestern State tomorrow afternoon to try and advance to the regional final.
