Parking Lot Collapse in Mississippi Swallows More Than a Dozen Cars

A weird scene unfolded in Meridian, Mississippi on Saturday as a massive gash tore through an IHOP parking lot and basically swallowed more than a dozen cars.

"One of the employees ran over to the window and yells 'Earthquake,'" said Noah Mathis, who was in the restaurant when it happened. "Everyone went into a panic."

The rip was more than the length of a football field. Incredibly though, no one was hurt, even though some parts of the massive crevice sank at least 15 feet.

Emergency personnel said an underground pipe collapsed, but it is unclear why. Authorities would not rule out the possibility that construction at the newly opened IHOP played a contributing factor.
