Dreamgirls is a rags to riches tale told in musical theater. Tonight on the stage of the Heyman Performing Arts Center, the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana brings that tale to you.

Dreamgirls is the story of an aspiring musical groups rise to stardom from obscurity. The story is set against the back drop of the 1960's and 1970's and follows the roller coaster ride of fame and fortune of an all girl singing group, The Dreams.

Dreamgirls is a story of fame earned the old fashioned way. When musical acts played amateur contests and small venues hoping to catch the eye of talent producers and record companies that would lead them to a brighter place in the spotlight. Today's musical performers might bypass all the pain and suffering and try out for The Voice, America's Got Talent or American Idol for the express trip to fame and fortune.

Although the story is about music on the outside, it is also about reaching for and achieving your dreams. What will make tonight's performance at the Heyman Center even more special is that several young ladies from Lafayette's Northside High School will be in attendance as guests of Iberia Bank. Iberia Bank teamed up with the faculty at Northside High to create the "I Dream Team".

Those chosen for the "I Dream Team" were singled out by faculty at Northside High for outstanding effort, achievement and dedication to making their personal dreams come true. These young ladies will be treated to dinner and a special meet and greet with the cast members before the show. Be sure to look for these outstanding students in their " I Dream Team" t-shirts and congratulate them on their selection for this honor.

Tickets for tonight's performance are still available showtime is set for 7pm.
