Pictures Show Thickness Of Basin Bridge Ice

If you're wondering why the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge is still closed, here's your answer.

DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson tweeted out these pictures of ice that had been retrieved from the bridge. According to the tape measure in the second picture, the ice covering the bridge is one and one-sixteenth inches thick.

The Basin Bridge is one of several major highways in Acadiana that's closed. U. S. 90 from Iberia Parish to New Orleans is closed because of icy overpasses. Those overpasses have contributed to a string of crashes in St. Mary Parish early Wednesday morning.
