(KMDL-FM) Dear Who Cares Guy on Facebook,

You're not fooling me, you're not fooling anyone. The fact that you commented "Who Cares" on that social media post says more about your shortcomings than the event, idea, celebration, or video you attempted to besmirch.

Yes, you have the right to not care, but by voicing something that should remain silent, you are telling us so much more about you.

What "Who Cares" Comments and Loud Trucks Have in Common.

Look, in this day and age of social media, when TikTok stars are making millions and Instagram posters are getting loads of free stuff, I can see why you might feel inadequate. You've probably felt that way since you were picked last on the playground and couldn't attend sleepovers because you wet the bed.

But your "Who Cares" cry for attention, like a person who revs their loud truck engine at a red light, can't be ignored. Based on social studies of people like you who make comments and behave like that, psychologists have determined the following about you.

Common Psychological Traits of Trolls Who Comment "Who Cares"

You are a pessimist. You see the glass as half-empty, and you won't be happy until others share your discontent with life. You are an attention seeker. Your sole purpose in your comment is to "gain a reaction". In other words, you have an unfulfilled need to make everything about you.

The fact that you'd only make such a comment behind the facade and anonymity of social media platforms also tells us that you're very insecure. While you desire to be dominant, you only dare to do so when there is an outlet for you to run and hide. You'd make a great politician, actually.

I'm sorry this is making you uncomfortable, but even though you "Don't Care," we do care about you. And the fact that you are subconsciously telling us "I'm here, and I want you to acknowledge my opinion," means something to us because everyone's opinion is important. They're not all best for the current situation, but everyone should feel validated in sharing a valid opinion.

So next time you feel the urge to display your psychological shortcomings on social media, why not try this? Instead of saying "Who cares," say "Here's why I don't care about this" and then list your reasons. Yes, that will open you up to scrutiny, backlash, and perhaps unkind comments. But you're okay with unkind comments, right?

Just as a point of reference, I have worked in advertising for about 50 years. I know this to be true about that and any other thing that's in the public consciousness. If you ignore it, it will go away. You don't have to tell anyone you're ignoring it; you just ignore it and let time do its thing.

Just like when folks push the button on their car radio or grab the remote control for their television, there is no requirement to "kiss me goodbye" when you leave. You just leave quietly and let those who are enjoying enjoy without you superimposing your insecurities in the wrong places.

And for those of you who will comment "Who Cares" when this gets posted on social media, not only do you have psychological issues, but you're also not very creative, inventive, or funny. Try harder, do better, and just know that although your comments tell us "all we need to know about you", we still care.

Sincerely,

Everybody on the Danged Ol' Internet

Simply posting something on social media can open yourself up to every troll on the internet. A viral video of an Indiana mom banging her head on a microwave door has brought out some ridiculous comments.
