Mardi Gras in Louisiana, it's so much more than just a day, a few weeks, or even a couple of months. It's a feeling, a vibe, an emotional roller coaster fueled by tradition and in some cases alcohol. It can also be a very dangerous time if you're not careful.

Every year when the Carnival Season rolls around emergency rooms and urgent care centers fill up with patients who find themselves on the receiving end of many minor and sometimes some major boo-boos. While our list seeks to sort out the most common minor and sometimes comical ailments and injuries that come from celebrating Mardi Gras the fact is people can and do get seriously injured.

Most of the more serious injuries involve the floats and the crowds. They run the gamut from broken bones and concussions to death. Yes, people have died as a result of a Mardi Gras mishap. Some of the more serious injuries on the ground occur when revelers run into the path of a moving float and are run over.

Meanwhile on the float falling is a major concern. Almost every Mardi Gras season we have to report the sad news of a float rider who was fatally injured when they fell from their bead-throwing platform onto the pavement below. In almost all cases the term "under the influence" is mentioned in the final police report.

Oh, and this list doesn't even begin to cover the horrific physical mishaps that can happen during a courir. That is a whole other kind of dangerous.
