This past week tens of thousands of Louisiana residents felt the sting of severe storms. The big thunderstorms and tornadoes took down powerlines in St Martin, New Iberia, St. Landry, and Lafayette parishes. To make matters worse, the destructive storm was a two-parter. Part of the damage happened on Monday night and then a second round of storms blew through the same part of the state late Thursday into Friday.

If you were one of the many homes and businesses in Louisiana that lost power in these storms then you know what an inconvenience it can be. Not only do you run the risk of losing food to spoilage, you probably had to sit and sweat in very warm late spring temperatures while the food in your fridge was going south.

Generators Are A Way of Life During Louisiana's Storm Season

If you live in the hurricane corridor of Louisiana, that's generally along and south of US 190 you probably have generator at your home. For most of us, we have the smaller portable units that we can use to run a fan or a cookstove or at least keep the fridge from defrosting.

The reason most of us don't have larger generators usually comes down to cost. But if you take the value of the money, the inconvenience of lost food, and the lack of comfort then you can see the value that having a generator for your home could bring. You might see that the cost of alternative power is not as high as you once originally thought.

What Size Generator Do I Need?

Obviously a larger generator will cost more than a generator that provides less power, but for your needs you might only need 5,000 watts. Which a 5,000 watt generator should be enough to power essentials such as lights, the refrigerator, and the freezer.

If you bump up the generator power to 15,000 watts you increase the creature comforts you can enjoy thanks to your generator. You should be able to run lights, the fridge and freezer, televisions, and yes your central air conditioning. Naturally, you'll want to double check the specific needs of your system before you finalize your generator choice.

How About a 20KW Generator for Your Louisiana Home?

If a 15,000 watt generator will power all of those items then you should be able to get even more "good" out of a 20 kw device. The problem with generators that offer that kind of power usually come with a handsome price tag. But if you've got air conditioning when everyone else is sweating, that's a feeling that money can't usually buy.

But fortunately for you, we know of an incredible deal on a 20kw generator that you could have for a fraction of its retail price. The generator in question is Kohler Brand 20kw unit. It is provided by Prime Energy Solutions and is valued at a retail price of $6,750. It looks very similar to the unit we have pictured above but the actual generator might vary in appearance and function from the one depicted above.

This generator is being offered as an item on our Annual Seize the Deal Spring Auction. Which means that price of $6,750 will not be what this unit sells for. For the majority of our items the savings are 40% or more on most items. So, you might be able to own this generator for $4,000 or less. And you can have it installed and operational before the next power outage hits.

Or you may peruse the other great items such as utility trailers, flooring, jewelry, body shop and automotive repairs.
