Heavy thunderstorms this morning, adding to the already saturated grounds from over the weekend, have led to tumultuous conditions across South Louisiana.

We're already getting reports of several power outages across Acadiana.

As of the 6:00 a.m. hour, SLEMCO is reporting that over 3,500 of its customers are without power.

According to Entergy, more than 3,500 residents are without power, while nearly 1,000 customers with LUS have been affected.

Regarding school closures, we are starting to hear about some across the Acadiana area. We'll keep this list updated as we get new information in.

As of now, the following schools are closed on Monday, March 31st due to the inclement weather:

ACADIA PARISH

  • Rayne Catholic (late start - 9:45 am)

IBERIA PARISH

  • Acadiana Christian School
  • Catholic High School
  • St. Edward

The Iberia Parish School District said its bus drivers have been instructed to exercise extreme caution this morning, which may result in some significant delays. Students arriving late will be allowed to check-in as excused. Student drivers at high schools will be allowed to check-in without a parent today.

LAFAYETTE PARISH

  • Gethsemane Christian Academy
  • Holy Family Catholic School
  • St. Cecilia in Broussard
  • Sts. Leo-Seton Catholic School

ST. LANDRY PARISH

  • Grand Prairie Elementary
  • North Central High
  • Palmetto Elementary

ST. MARTIN PARISH

  • All schools in Upper St. Martin Parish - From Superintendent Wiltz: "Due to severe weather and flooding, schools will be closed today."
