The 2025 Grammy Awards nominations came out late last week, and as usual, several artists with Louisiana ties received nods.

A total of 94 categories were announced and seven Louisiana natives were nominated in several categories, including Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Album, Best Spoken Word Poetry Album, Best Regional Roots Music Album, Best Song Written for Visual Media and Best Music Film.

New Orleans native Lucky Daye has been nominated twice. He is up for Best Traditional R&B Performance for his song "That's You" and Best R&B Album for "Algorithm."

Another New Orleans-based group, Tank and the Bangas is up for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album for the band's "The Heart, the Mind, the Soul" album.

The category that Louisiana artists dominate seemingly every year is once again chock full of Bayou State musicians. The Best Regional Roots Music Album category has four Louisianians in it.

The following are in this category (with the album listed as well):

  • Sean Ardoin and Kreole Rock and Soul - "25 Back to My Roots"
  • Big Chief Monk Boudreaux & The Golden Eagles featuring J'Wan Boudreaux - "Live at the 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival"
  • New Breed Brass Band featuring Trombone Shorty - "Live at the 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival"
  • The Rumble featuring Chief Joseph Boudreaux Jr. - "Stories From the Battlefield"

And finally, New Orleans native Jon Batiste is once again a Grammy nominee. He is up for awards in the Best Song Written for Visual Media category for "It Never Went Away [From "American Symphony]" and the Best Music Film Category for "American Symphony."

Next year's Grammy Awards will be presented during a live broadcast on ABC on February 2, 2025.
