X-rays have played an important part in the medical field for many years. I did not know they used to use x-rays in shoe stores. It seems the practice of using x-rays grew out of favor by the early 1970s. Up until that time it was fairly common to have your feet zapped right in the shoe store so the salesman could examine the fit of your new shoes.

I never experienced this but I am betting some of you have. I can only imagine the dose of radiation those working in shoe stores must have gotten over a long period of time. I can also imagine the long line of curious kids wanting to see the bones in their feet wiggle.

Can you imagine walking into your favorite shoe store and having the sales associate tell you that he or she is going to expose you and your feet to radiation? I think I would just have to pass. I will just try my shoes on and tell you if they fit or not.
