Simone Champagne, a former state representative and the current Chief Administrative Officer for the city of Youngsville, has jumped into the race for Lafayette Mayor-President, according to the Advocate.

As a representative, Champagne served District 49, which includes parts of Iberia and Vermilion parishes, from 2008 until the end of 2014. She has served as CAO for Youngsville Mayor Ken Ritter since 2015 and previously served in the same position for Iberia Parish before getting elected to the state House of Representatives.

All of the candidates are registered Republicans, except for Alm-LaBar (no party affiliation).

Qualifying for the race is Aug. 6-8. The election is Oct. 12 with a runoff, if needed, Nov. 16.
