One of the best ways to live a healthier, happier life is to be clean and organized. It may not seem like it, but if you are not living in a clutter-free environment, you most likely won't make the proper eating decisions for your health.

I just started reading the new book from Maria Menounos, The EveryGirl's Guide To Diet and Fitness, and there is a section titled "D.O.C. - Declutter, Organize, Clean!" I didn't realize until after I read this particular part that people who live like a slob- whether it's in their home, car, work space, etc.- are not the healthiest or happiest people. Yes, this may seem a bit harsh, but for the most part it is very true.

Maria goes on to explain how she once was one of those lazy people. This led to poor eating decisions and a nonexistent active and fit life. When you think about it, how can someone feel happy and healthy if they are living in a mess? I know the feeling that begins to creep up on me when I let things pile up on my counter tops or in my car. It feels suffocating.

Here are some great ways for you to declutter, organize, and clean your life around you:

  1. Declutter everything in your life - home, car, desk, drawers, wallet, computers, cell phone, etc. Completely get rid of everything you do not use or need anymore and do not let any sentimental feelings let you hang on to anything! You will feel so much better when everything is either thrown away or donated to people who do actually need it.
  2. Get organized. I may be a little bit of a freak, but I like to color-coordinate my closet. It makes things so much easier when I am trying to get dressed, hanging clothes back up, and keeping my closet nice and clean. Also, instead of having loose papers strewn about, put them into labeled files. Have a file specifically for receipts, important school papers, work, etc.
  3. Clean it up! Do you bathe every day? Hopefully you answered yes. We always feel better after we bathe and you will always feel better when living and breathing in a clean environment. By being clean, you will make clean eating decisions. It's like magic.

Our home is our sanctuary. It is where we wake up each morning and go to bed each night. Take pride in your home and in your life. At the end of the day, our health is the most important.
