Heavy Tropical Downpours Expected Along The I-10 Corridor Soon

(KMDL-FM) An abundance of deep tropical moisture is streaming up from the Gulf across Louisiana. That deep tropical moisture is forecast to become heavy tropical downpours over the weekend and especially on Monday and Tuesday of next week across South Louisiana.

Rainfall amounts along the I-10 corridor across southern Louisiana could range from four inches to six inches between Sunday and Tuesday. Those estimates are based on reasonable highest rainfall amounts according to National Weather Service forecasts and model projections.

When Will the Heavy Rain Start and Where is it Most Likely to Fall?

The graphic you see above from the National Weather Service Office in Lake Charles sums up the situation quite nicely. On the left-hand side of the graphic, you see where the area of greatest concern for heavy rain is in Louisiana on Monday and Tuesday.

On the right-hand side of the graphic, you can see the rainfall estimates and potential totals. We should note that the amount of rain that could fall isn't the biggest concern. It is how fast the rain will fall and if rainfall rates will exceed municipal drainage systems that will determine which areas might see high water and which ones will not.

In the graphic below, again provided by the Lake Charles Forecast Office of the National Weather Service you can see how rainfall probabilities are at their highest over the weekend and early next week. It certainly seems as if late Saturday through late Monday will be spent dodging raindrops. Let's just hope those drops won't become floodwater.

Some of the long-range forecasts keep rain chances very high through at least Tuesday of next week.

By Wednesday, the rain threat retreats to more summertime norms, as there will only be a chance of widely scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms forecast across the area by midweek.
