Two rivals met on the baseball diamond Saturday with a giant backdrop. The class 4A state championship.

For St. Thomas More, the Cougars were looking to win their second consecutive crown.

For Teurlings, the Rebels needed one more victory for a third state championship (2010, 2012) during a 5 year stretch.

In the end, a masterful performance on the mound from a senior Cougar, along with a high octane offense, helped STM capture the state title.

Cougars head coach Gary Perkins knew his team had to limit mistakes to hold back a Rebels offense and avoid giving Teurlings free bases.

STM senior pitcher Brennan Breaux, an LSU commit, helped his team do just that, tossing six complete innings, allowing only 4 hits while striking out 10 Rebel batters. He was named player of the game for his efforts.

A two-run double by Mason Tucker, along with a triple and run scored by O'Neal Lochridge helped the Cougars gain a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

STM's senior class leaves as the only one in school history to make the state tournament (semi-finals) four straight years. Back to back state championships is another first, something this group of Cougars will never forget.
