This is an issue that seems to have no middle ground. You are either for it or against it. Depending upon the connotation of how it is to be used you might fluctuate just a bit on your opinion. The subject at hand is marijuana. The question is should it be legalized? If so to what extent?

There is growing support across the country and in Louisiana for the use of marijuana when prescribed by a doctor for medicinal purposes. There is also growing support for legalizing the use of marijuana for recreational purposes.

Citizens are learning what a lot of us have known for a long time.Cannabis is safer than alcohol and many other drugs.

That's what David Brown told the Louisiana Radio Network. Brown is director of a group called Sensible Marijuana Policy for Louisiana.

A recent Gallop Poll showed that since the year 2000 support for legalizing marijuana in the United States has nearly doubled. The recent poll showed that 60% of Americans support the concept of legalized pot.

On November 8th, election day, nine states will be considering changes to their laws governing the use and possession of marijuana. Brown believes that Louisiana will be among the last states in the union to move in that direction.

To change to something like the Washington/Colorado model, legalized adult use. That would be when we're swept along with all the other states at the very end.

In a recent session of the Louisiana Legislature supporters of legalized cannabis have noted progress in their efforts to make marijuana available to citizens who might need the drug for medicinal purposes.

It's the result of a lot of hard work and lobbying at the legislative level, and help from health care providers and patients themselves who have made their voices heard.

While the growing trend among national opinion might be moving more in favor of legalizing pot for medicinal and medical use the move toward change is not that fast in Louisiana. Many experts speculate that it could be close to another decade before the issue is even brought to the ballot box for voters to decide.
