Sure Fire Ways to Spot a Tourist in Louisiana
Most of the time when some one finds out I'm from Louisiana, they just want to talk about the food, but there are some very specific ways to tell when you encounter a bona fide tourist here in the Bayou State. Has anyone ever actually had an alligator living in their back yard? Uh huh, see what I mean? Only in Louisiana knows how to spot a tourist, and you can check out these 'can't miss' tips to see who actually is from here, and who isn't.
- Going crazy over big bugs and mosquitoes
- Asking everyone if they speak French
- Wearing Mardi Gras beads when it's not Mardi Gras
- Don't understand how to pronounce 'geaux' - or what it means
- Asking for 'less spicy' food in a restaurant
- Don't understand what a 'dressed' poboy is
- Wearing jeans or long pants in the summer
- Not quite sure how to peel a crawfish
- Saying 'New - Orleeens'
- Asking where to buy tickets to Mardi Gras
- Taking pictures of EVERYTHING
My own personal favorite ways to spot a tourist are: being stone cold drunk on Bourbon Street, and being rude or condescending about southerners. However, most of our tourists are as happy to be here as we are to have them visit our beautiful state. Welcome to Louisiana, y'all!
