Teurlings Advances To Play In Division II State Title Game
The second day of the LHSAA high school baseball semifinals featured three local teams, with one advancing to a state title game, while two others were eliminated.
The Teurlings Catholic Rebels will play for the Division II state title in the Select Bracket, after defeating the St. Thomas More Cougars, 7-1, on Thursday at McMurry Park in Sulphur, in a match-up of two Acadiana area teams.
The #3-seed, Teurlings will play for the state championship on Saturday at noon, against 8th-seeded St. Louis, who eliminated University Lab, 8-2.
Unfortunately, Opelousas Catholic lost in their semifinal game, as they fell to Riverside Academy, 7-2, and were eliminated from the Division III bracket, after a fine season.
That leaves 3 local teams still alive in the state baseball playoffs.
In the Non-Select bracket, only Breaux Bridge is still alive, with Teurlings Catholic and Ascension Episcopal remaining in the Select bracket.
Play continues on Friday, at McMurry Park in Sulphur. with the finals for all classifications set for Friday and Saturday.
Two local schools are in action on Friday, including the Division II state title game, with the #11-seed, Ascension Episcopal playing for their first-ever state championship on Friday at 7 pm, against top-seeded Central Catholic.
Ascension Episcopal advanced to the title game by blanking Houma Christian, 3-0, in the semifinals, while Central Catholic eliminated Ascension Catholic, 5-4.
Breaux Bridge, the 2nd-seed in the Class 4A bracket, will play their semifinal game, against Tioga, the 3rd-seed, on Friday at 1:30 pm.
