How many times have you said, "there are just not enough hours in the day". Well according to scientists the day on Earth will slowly be stretching to a 25 hour day instead of the customary 24 that we are all used to.

Just think the folks at FOX TV will have to rename that whole series from 24 to 25. We'll probably get an extra episode out of the deal.

I know you're thinking I am pulling your leg on this but according to a report on the Forbes Magazine website the moon is actually increasing the length of a day on Earth. Remember, science defines a day on Earth as one full rotation. What these researchers are saying is the gravitation forces of the Moon are actually slowing down the rotation of our planet.

How do scientist know this? It has to do with something our astronauts left behind on the surface of the moon during their visits a few decades ago. This use of sophisticated laser technology proves that the Earth day is getting longer already.

Another validation of this fact is the historical records of solar eclipses. By the way, a solar eclipse is expected to occur in August of this year.  Using this information scientist can determine exactly how fast the Earth must have been rotating in the past.

Before you go planning an extra hour of sleep or internet browsing I should make it perfectly clear it's going to take a little while for this 25-hour day thing to happen. By a little while, scientists mean 180-million years. Which is the "feels-like" equivalent of the last two minutes of a basketball game.

I apologize if I got your hopes up. But, who knows, in just a few years science may come up with a way to help us live well into our "200 millions"  instead of our 70's. Should this actually happen our hope is to give you plenty of time to be prepared for that extra hour in the day.
