Louisiana's Biggest House

Over the last 75 years, the size of homes in the U.S. has more than tripled.

The average house size went from 797 square feet in 1945 to 2,491 square feet in 2020.

In fact that leaves the U.S. with more floor area per resident of any country in the world.

But what about the largest single-family homes in the U.S.?

Our friends at Angi did some research and found the largest single-family homes in every state. The houses range in architectural styles, historical landmarks, size, and more.

What's the Largest House in Louisiana?

Here in Louisiana, you might consider one of the many large homes in New Orleans to be on this list. Or perhaps the Governor's mansion in Baton Rouge.

It turns out, the largest single-family home in Louisiana is indeed in Baton Rouge, but it's not the Governor's mansion.

Louisiana's largest home doesn't have a fancy name. It sits at 11001 Highland Rd in Baton Rouge. As it turns out, it's currently for sale for a measly $14 million.

The 25,372 sq. ft. Highland Rd mansion was built in 2006 and sports five bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a home theater, gym, cabana, saltwater pool, man made lake, and four-bedroom cabana across 12.5 acres of land.

These eight pictures don't do the entire 25,372 sq. ft. of house any justice. You can check out 50 pictures on Zillow to really get a feel for how opulent and BIG this mansion is.

The "smallest" largest home is in South Dakota. This one could fit inside the Fair Field house (the largest house in the U.S.) NINE times! This 11,734 sq. ft South Dakota mansion boasts four bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and a private exercise room.

So what do you think? Could you live in the largest single-family home in Louisiana? What about ole Fair Field up there?
