We like to think that the place that we're from is the best place in the whole world, and if you live in Louisiana, you say it loud and proud! Only in Louisiana has reminded me of some of my favorite small communities here in the Bayou State that have a genuine 'Claim to Fame'. Some of them are obvious, and some of them are just charming little places that have something really special going on! If you're not from here, you really need to check these awesome small towns out ASAP!

  • Breaux Bridge - Crawfish Capital of the World - officially declared so by the Louisiana Legislature in 1959
  • Crowley - Rice Capital of America - and home to the International Rice Festival every October
  • Des Allemands - Catfish Capital of the Universe - hosts the Louisiana Catfish Festival every June
  • Dubach - Dogtrot Capital of the World - a style of house common in the 19th and 20th centuries in this part of the state
  • Gonzales - Jambalaya Capital of the World - and home to the wildly popular Jambalaya Festival since 1968
  • Gueydan - Duck Capital of America - Hunters come from all over the world for the duck hunting around this Acadiana town
  • Ponchatoula - Strawberry Capital of the World - home to the largest free festival in the state of Louisiana
  • Rayne - Frog Capital of America - originally made famous by the exportation of the green amphibians to restaurants across the USA
  • Slidell - Camellia City - gardens across this beautiful little town are full of abundant and fragrant camellias
  • LeCompte - Pie Capital of Louisiana - they aren't kidding about this one. Just try passing through without stopping at the world famous Lea's Lunch Room for a slice. They were even featured on the 'Tonight Show' with Johnny Carson
