Thomas Rhett and Rhett Akins Dig Up Years-Old Song for Tin Pan South 2018 [WATCH]
Rhett Akins' Tuesday night (April 3) show, part of the annual Tin Pan South songwriters' festival, began with a special guest: his son, Thomas Rhett. Together, the two treated the crowd to a brief performance of the first song they ever wrote together.
According to Country Common, Rhett was seven years old when he and his dad penned the brief, rhyming tune. Readers can press play on the video above to hear Rhett dig out a few lines of the old tune: "Next thing you know, you've got a song that's good / One that the whole word wants to sing ..."
During his time onstage with his dad, Rhett also performed some of his more recent work: "It Goes Like This," "Star of the Show" and "Marry Me." Akins co-wrote "It Goes Like This" with Ben Hayslip and Jimmy Robbins, and he and Rhett have written numerous songs together as well.
Akins' Tuesday night show, which took place at 3rd and Lindsley, was billed as BMI Presents Rhett Akins & Friends and was also scheduled to include the Warren Brothers and Bob DiPiero. Tin Pan South 2018 is scheduled to run through April 7.
