Yesterday we were all a little Irish, today we can all be a little uncomfortable. The offbeat holiday of the day is Awkward Moments Day. What is an awkward moment? I guess those can be defined on a very personal level but here are some examples.

It is walking out of a public restroom with a ten foot stream of toilet tissue stuck to your shoe. It is passing gas in an elevator when you're alone only to have the car fill up with people at the very next floor. It is anytime you're singing in the car at a stoplight and notice other people staring at you. It is when you're standing next to Kanye West on a charity special to help victims of Katrina when he announces that George Bush doesn't care about black people.  These are the kinds of moments we celebrate today.

This begs the question, what is your most awkward moment? Here's one that didn't happen specifically to me but I was there to view it. We had a gentleman come down to work with us at the radio station so we took him to lunch. This was when we had a Catfish Shack in town. They had a marvelous lunch buffet and I watched as this fine fellow reveled in the marvelous Southern delicacies laid out before him. I watched as he scoop a giant portion of mashed potatoes on his plate and then covered them with what he thought was white gravy.

Here is where it gets awkward, that white gravy like substance wasn't old fashioned cream gravy. It was sauce for the bread pudding. In other words he covered his potatoes with sweet creamy icing. I probably could have told him what he was doing but that would have been awkward for me. Instead I let him take a bite and have that awkward moment all to himself.
