Tradition is unstoppable. Literally.

Danielle Garcia and our media partners at KATC took it to Church Point, LA on Sunday for their annual Mardi Gras festivities. Thousands were gathered to watch the chickens and the floats and its almost like rain wasn't even a factor.

We’re from Church Point, we’re natives so we’ve been doing this for a long time. If you compare this to New Orleans or Lafayette even, I mean you don’t have the chicken chasing or the Courir tradition like Church Point.

Runners were decked out in traditional capuchons and ready to catch chickens. Once they were all caught, the parades rolled and spectators reveled with joy as the floats passed by.

At the end of the day, it was the same theme that kicked off the festivities according to one attendee.

It’s all about tradition, everything is the same from back in the day. I had fun, it was great, got a little wet, we’re trying to keep the tradition alive.

I think it's safe to say that the Mardi Gras tradition is alive and well in Church Point. Bourdain would be proud.
