Dr. Anthony Fauci is now saying that two masks are better than one.

Double-masking has been trending online since the infectious disease specialist mentioned that wearing two masks is "a logical way to curb the spread of coronavirus." Fauci made the announcement while appearing on the "Today" show.

If you have a physical covering with one layer, you put another layer on, it just makes common sense that it likely would be more effective.

While there has been much debate on the effectiveness of mask-wearing, Fauci explains that, at minimum, face coverings "prevent respiratory droplets — and the virus — from spreading to other people, as well as protecting the wearer."

Other doctors have piggybacked on Fauci's suggestion saying that more layers of protection between one person's mouth and another simply creates "less risk of spreading infection" but also addresses that it shouldn't come at a cost of being uncomfortable.

The idea is that it should be snugly fit without making you uncomfortable.

The official recommendation from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) currently states that masks that people wear should have "two or more layers of washable, breathable fabric."
