A United States military aircraft went down in what officials are describing as a "hard landing" near the border between North and South Korea. The CH-53 US Marine helicopter that was carrying three crew and 13 other personnel was participating in a joint military exercise with South Korean troops.

According to official reports all of those aboard the aircraft survived the incident. The incident comes at a time a heightened tension in the region. North Korean officials have called the joint military exercises a rehearsal for invasion. The North has also made threats of retaliation to the joint exercises.
