Union Files Complaint Over COVID-19 Conditions at Oakdale Prison

It's now part of our pandemic mindset, the daily planning of places I need to go to versus places I want to go to. Are those places going to be "safe"? That's the question that has been brought to the forefront by the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, for me anyway, my destinations, work, and home, are being maintained and kept virus-free. However, some Louisiana workers don't appear to be as fortunate as me.

Complaints about conditions at the Federal Correctional Complex at Oakdale have been sent to OSHA and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Those complaints were sent by the union that represents the staff at the prison.

The complaint filed by leaders of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 1007 and Local 3957 alleges that conditions at the facility pose an imminent danger to inmates and staff during this coronavirus pandemic. The complaint goes on to suggest that some persons who have tested positive for COVID-19 are not being properly isolated.

KPLC Television is reporting that the Department of Labor and OSHA have opened an investigation into the complaints and will not be commenting on the situation until their investigation has been concluded. If you'd like to read the OSHA complaints you may do so here and also here.
