At the end of this school year, Lafayette Parish School Superintendent Donald Aguillard will be retiring, and currently the members of the School Board are looking for an interim superintendent.

One of the people to turn in an application to the board is Vermilion Parish School Superintendent Jerome Puyau.

The district has earned an "A" rating from the state of Louisiana in terms of performance.

Jerome Puyau tells KPEL,

After careful consideration, talks with my family, self reflection and prayers, I have decided to dedicate the rest of my career to the district I love and cherish. I will be announcing my removal of my application for the interim superintendent position for Lafayette Parish.

Nine candidates in all had submitted there information to the Lafayette School Board by the deadline.

Puyau adds,

Many times we need to contemplate the aspirations and goals in one's life. My goals have been fulfilled here in 'Our Vermilion.' I look forward to being a part of the next steps in providing our students with a world-class education experience. We might be small, but we are resilient. Every child. Every day. The Vermilion way!

That leaves eight candidates still in the running for the job.
