Sad news out of New Orleans after a woman was run over and killed by a Mardi Gras float in the Krewe of Nyx parade tonight.

According to WWL, the parade was halted after the incident took place near Magazine and Valence Street a little after 8 p.m.

A dramatic photo showed the captain of the Krewe of Nyx being informed about the fatal accident. A subsequent video (below) shows the captain's float resuming, but without the captain onboard. An observer said that that people in the area were screaming for help and spectators were visibly upset with children crying.

Witnesses say the victim was facing away from the float before the incident took place. The 44-float parade was re-routed and continued on as authorities gathered on the scene.
