(KMDL-FM) Scammers have gone from trying to steal your details online and via text to now literally walking right up to your front door. It's not a particularly new scam, but it's a scam that's recently been reported again in Louisiana. Law enforcement officers call it the "Yellow Hanger" scam, and it's pretty obvious how it got its name.

The latest report of the scam surfacing in Louisiana has been in the northern parishes of the state. The Bastrop, Louisiana Police Department has reported instances of the scam or attempted scam from some of the residents of that town in recent days.

What is the Yellow Hanger Scam and How Does It Work?

According to a social media post by Bastrop PD, doorbell camera footage from a residence in Bonner Ferry showed an individual approaching the front door of the residence. The individual left a piece of literature hanging on the doorknob. The individual was seen leaving the property and driving away in an early 2000's model Silverado.

According to reports, the phone calls are linked to scam call centres where operators attempt to obtain a potential victim's personal information, including banking and financial passwords.

It would also be a good idea to report any activity to your local authorities. If your home is equipped with a doorbell or security camera, and you can provide footage of the individual or individuals who are leaving the scam documents behind, this would help authorities in their investigation.

Now, for those scammers who are too lazy to come by your front door, here are the ones who will be calling you. Don't answer, really, just don't.
