‘Zombie-Like’ Viral Outbreak Found In South Louisiana Is A Threat To Your Pets
The good news is that the viral outbreak of canine distemper, described as a "zombie-like' condition, can't be transferred to humans. The bad news is that it can be transferred to your pets. Here's what you need to know...
Myarklamiss.com reports Dr. James LaCour, Louisiana’s state wildlife veterinarian has confirmed a viral outbreak of canine distemper from Florida to Lafayette.
The Wildlife and Fisheries Department says the disease is spreading among raccoons. Some people are describing the infected animals as "walking in a stupor, or zombie state".
The concern is that the virus can be transmitted to pets, and can be fatal.

LaCour is encouraging pet owners to have their pet vaccinated against the distemper virus. He said the shot requires an annual booster and can be received along with the annual rabies vaccine.
