A cool bright morning and a beautiful course through out some of Lafayette's most scenic areas greeted Acadiana runners Sunday. That's what over 22-hundred participants were treated to in Lafayette's Inaugural Zyedco Marathon. The race route covered 26.2 miles through the Saints Streets, the University of Louisiana Campus, the Oil Center and a home stretch run at Cajun Field back to the start finish/line.

Top times in both the men's and women's categories for the full marathon were claimed by local runners. Youngsville's Chris Lapoint posted a time of 2 Hours, 49 minutes, and 44 seconds for his run.  Sandy Osborne was the first woman to break the tape with a time of 3 hours, 13 minutes, 39 seconds.

Based on the comments left on the Zydeco Marathon Facebook page, the inaugural event might be hard to beat next year.

"Great race and lots of fun. It wad definitely worth the drive from Fort Polk. My first 26.2 and you all made it awesome. Hopefully I will run your race again in the future"

That's what Oliver Davis had to say about his experience. Others echoed the positive spin on the event and said they were looking forward to next year's marathon. Catherine Sowa made these comments on the event's Facebook Page.

"Fantastic job at organizing, planning the route, and ordering up the weather! And the volunteers were FANTASTIC! Police support was plentiful and it appeared they were doing a great job keeping traffic moving while keeping the racers safe. And the last officer at the corner - he was so encouraging, too!
I'm SO planning on doing the second annual race!"

Full results from the full marathon and half marathon have been posted if you'd like to see how your friends and family fared in the event.
