Actor Richard Dysart died early this week after a long illness. He was 86 years old.

He was best known for his role as the cranky senior partner Leland McKenzie on TV's "L.A. Law" from 1986-1994. He won an Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series for the role in 1992.

Dysart also played the villain in Clint Eastwood's 1985 western Pale Rider. He was also the doctor who got his hands bitten off by a giant mouth that opened up in a guy's chest in the 1982 horror classic The Thing.

Richard Dysart is survived by his third wife, Katherine, whom he's been married to since 1987.
