The theater that is the NFL wants the audience to not leave their seats during intermission. Okay, the league wants fans to stay interested in their teams even during the off season. That is why I believe there are so many delicious rumors floating around about football even during the height of March Madness.

The NFL doesn't like to be ignored and like any unregulated monopoly they are getting their way. I am certainly playing into the NFL master plan of world domination by reporting the latest rumor regarding Saints Quarterback Drew Brees.

According to a columnist with the New York Daily News, either Brees or Philip Rivers from San Diego would be the perfect fit for the New York Jets. The Jets have recently signed several veteran players and appear to be in a win now frame of mind.

A veteran quarterback like Brees certainly improves the New York team instantly. When you consider the fact that Brees is about to really start costing the Saints a lot of money against the salary cap you can't say the idea is total nonsense. Brees is also 36 which in quarterback years is approaching gold watch time.

The Saints reportedly are very interested in Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. The team does have two first round draft picks and could probably package those together to move way up in the draft order to get Mariota should he be their choice. Many people think that Mariota will be the second quarterback selected in the NFL Draft. The Saints might have to reach as high as pick #2 to get their man. The Jets will be picking at #6.

Would a move to #6 be good enough for the Saints to secure Mariota? Will the Jets opt to make a move for Phillip Rivers, a younger quarterback with more years left in his career than Brees? Will the Tennessee Titans find a way to muck this all up? These are the questions that will be answered in the first round of the draft. Until then, settle back with your popcorn and get your hip boots on because the rumors will be flying fast and furious between now and April 30.
