Brandon Comeaux

I've lived in the Carencro/Lafayette area all my life. From the food, to the people, to the area sports teams, no matter where I visit, this area is my home and I love it.

My love of sports got me into the world of radio, and actually contributed to me becoming a part of the KPEL staff. Let me explain:

When I was in high school, I played football for Northside High. After practices, I would love to jump in my car and listen to the guys on ESPN 1420 talk about my team and all the other high schools in the area. One day it dawned on me that I wanted to make a career out of talking sports on the radio (including working for ESPN 1420) and major in Broadcasting. So I went to UL-Lafayette. About midway through college in 2007, I took a public speaking class that allowed me to set up an interview with someone in my chosen field. After talking with Steve Peloquin, ESPN 1420's program director, he decided to hire me. It was an answer to a prayer that I'd been praying for years, a chance to work for my favorite radio station. After working a couple of years at ESPN 1420, the KPEL staff noticed my hard work and offered me a chance to work with them as well. I took them up on their offer, and as I got more and more involved with KPEL, I began to enjoy it as much as I did working for ESPN 1420. I really enjoy being able to keep our listeners informed on the news of the day, and I have an absolute blast producing the "Afternoon Drive Home" with Jeremy Lawrence.

I consider myself very blessed. I get to work in the news and sports worlds, and I get to do so with great people on both stations. On ESPN 1420, I have my own sports talk show (Sunday Night Sportstalk from 7-8 pm) and I cover high school sports for them as well. On Newstalk 96.5 KPEL, in addition to my reporter and producer duties, I do website work and behind the scenes stuff that keeps the station running, a responsibility that I really enjoy having. Working at KPEL sometimes reminds me of conversations with my late grandfather when I was a teenager; conversations that very much involved news and politics. I began working in radio after he died, but I know he’s watching me from above, and I strive to make him proud.

I’m a huge New Orleans Saints fan, as well as the Cajuns and LSU Tigers. While I was a student at UL, I got to travel all over the country with the football team as one of their videographers, an experience I’ll never forget.

In my spare time, I love going to sporting events, especially ones that involve road trips with my friends. I also volunteer in my church's Children's Department, teaching some of the older kids how to work the media equipment.
