I am a weather geek. I am a foodie. Every now and then I get to combine my two passions of watching Mother Nature and her fury with the bounty of Mother Nature's goodness. This is such a case for this edition of Foodie Friday.

I told Chef Jill McCoy that by the time the weekend arrived the weather would be very winterlike. The winds would be blowing. The temperatures would be falling. I wanted a dish that would translate well into this colder environment. It needed to be filling, hearty, and hot. The recipe that Chef Jill returned with is quite the perfect match for what my expectations and taste buds were hoping to find.

There is no more satisfying dish for a cold day than soup. Here in our part of the world we call it Gumbo sometimes but it's basically soup. Even chili can be considered soup if you want to get down to the brass tacks.

This recipe for chicken noodle soup will have you tossing the artistic cans and doing it yourself. It's so easy to  make and the difference between can offered and home made is huge.

Chef Jill revealed that this particular recipe was a favorite of her Oma. That's German for Grandmother. Chef Jill has ties directly into Bavaria so sometimes her cooking will take on that hearty and strong German personality. This  soup has that kind of a personality. With its home made stock, and fresh vegetables and delightfully tender chicken I think you're going to love every bite. You might even take your bowl and bundle up in a blanket and enjoy it on the patio. Take that winter! We've got soup!
