Cajun P Reagan Bazar Earns Freshmen All-American Honors

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun baseball team is riding into the Lafayette Super Regional with plenty of accolades, including a Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American nod to reliever Reagan Bazar.

Bazar, nicknamed “Big Thunder” by his teammates, does a lot of things big. At 6’7, 230 pounds, his first collegiate pitch was clocked at 100 mph. The kid can throw some serious heat. He even threw in practice to my cohort Ryan Baniewicz (spoiler alert: Ryan didn’t win that battle).

In 24 appearances this season, the Salado, Texas native posted a 4-0 record, earned 6 saves, sports a 2.32 ERA, and struck out 19 batters in 31 innings of play.

He was recognized today by the 2014 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team. Players were voted on the Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

“I’m really proud of what Reagan has done this season and think that his future is bright,” Louisiana head coach Tony Robichaux said in a press release. “He has worked very hard to be the player that he is today. This is great honor for both him and the program. When you are named one of the best in the nation in anything, it means that you have done something good. This is a great start to his career here in Lafayette.”

Other notable names honored as Freshmen All-Americans include LSU lefted handed pitcher Jared Poche, right hander Adam Oller of Northwestern State, reliefer Marc Skinner of Troy, shortstop Samuel Capielano of UNO, and outfielder Hezekiah Randolph of UNO.
