The meter has finally run out. The Discovery Channel’s Emmy-Award winning gameshow, ‘Cash Cab’ is coming to an end after six seasons and two-hundred plus episodes.

The taxi-based gameshow, which was created by a British teenager, has become a hit the world over, with ‘Cash Cab’ iterations airing in China, Kazakhstan, Chile and just about anywhere else that has taxis.

Stateside, the show gave New Yorkers a chance to earn back their pricey cab fare and then some, with the biggest payout being $6200. A Chicago-based version of the show was also produced but only ran for one season.

During its seven-year run, ‘Cash Cab’ racked up three Daytime Emmys for Best Game Show and host, Ben Bailey won for Best Host back in 2010.

Discovery has yet to release an official statement on the show’s cancellation but a PR rep for the network confirmed the news to New York magazine’s Vulture blog. However, the show will still air in syndication and there is the possibility that ‘Cash Cab’ producer, Lion Television could find another home for the show.

Sadly, now that ‘Cash Cab’ is over for the time being, New Yorkers can no longer hope that their next pricey taxi ride will turn into a big payday for the passenger, for once.
