For those of us that love Classic Country Saturday Night Bill Anderson is a household name. He has had countless hits as a performer. He had his own television show, it was on about the same time as the Porter Wagoner Show, The Wilburn Brothers Show, and other great country music variety shows. He had his own country style restaurant chain, Po'Folks was a great place to get your grub on anytime you were hungry.

The reason that Bill Anderson was always a favorite of mine was  because of how he could manipulate his voice around the words of a song and squeeze every drop of emotion out of every lyric. His haunting and heartbreaking delivery of the words in the song Still, can tear your heart apart.

I also liked Bill Anderson in his role as game show host. He was the host of The Nashville Network's game show Fandango. It was a favorite of mine to watch during the years that it was on.

Today we celebrate the birth of Whisperin' Bill, he was born this day in 1937 and that makes him really darn old. But he will tell you that as long as you're on this side of the dirt, you can have a great day.
