If you added up all the Louisiana locations of Starbucks Coffee in cities such as New Orleans, Shreveport, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Bunkie, and other municipalities you'd find that there is approximately one Starbucks for every 60,000 residents of our state. And they all seem to be in line in front of me with an extremely complicated order.

Sorry, but I know you've felt that way too and it doesn't make you happy. Another thing that doesn't make most of us cheerful is change. And we have news of changes coming to Starbucks' drive-thrus and that change could have an implication on your morning cup of coffee.

I know that's hard to think about, dealing with change before you've had your coffee but this change in police for Starbucks has been done as a response to customer input. If you're not familiar with Starbucks business model, they lean very much to the side of being environmentally friendly. And the change they are implementing is being done as a nod to reducing waste.

Beginning this week Starbucks locations across the nation and that would include Louisiana locations will allow you to bring and use your own cup when making a order. This can be done inside or even through the drive-thru. All you have to have is a clean cup that is a large enough vessel to hold the contents of your order and just like that, you've kept a cup out of the landfill.

How Do I Use My Own Cup At a Starbucks Drive Thru?

When you place your order at the drive-thru speaker, you will need to let the barista know that you have brought your own cup. At the pick up window, your cup will be collected, without the lid, via a contactless method. Your order will be filled and your cup returned in the same contactless manner.

How Do I Use My Own Cup Via the Starbucks App?

This ordering process is virtually the same as the drive-thru method. The exception is that when you place the order on the Starbucks App you'll choose "Customization" and that is where you select "personal cup".

Customers who will enjoy their coffee at the cafe may request a reusable ceramic mug for their beverage of choice. Or, you may also bring your own cup or container to "dine-in" as well. Again, the only concern is that the beverage you order will fit in the cup you brought.

What Is the Benefit of Bringing Using My Own Cup at Starbucks?

As we alluded too there is an environmental benefit which should help reduce waste generated by the millions of coffee cups that are discarded every year. If you're looking for something a little more tangible and "what's in it for me" there is a .10 cent discount offered for those who bring their own cups. And, if you're a member of the Starbucks Rewards Program you could also earn an additional 25 bonus stars.
