Child Injured After Hit-and-Run Accident in Plaisance

According to State Police, a child is in the hospital this evening after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 167 in St Landry Parish.

The 10-year-old suffered a broken jaw and two broken legs as a result of the crash, this according to a family member.

Police say the child was riding her bicycle along the highway when a motorist swerved onto the shoulder for unknown reasons, striking the child.

The motorist, Savanna Fontenot of Opelousas, was arrested and charged with hit-and-run and careless driving. She was booked into the St Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.

The child was brought to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
