UL Lafayette Summer Blood Drive

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette and United Blood Services will conduct their summer blood drive on Wednesday, June 18th from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in front of Dupré Library and between Madison and Oliver Halls. The drive is being sponsored by the Student Government Association.

Donors will receive (while supplies last):

• An “All Things Southern” t-shirt
• A coupon for a free chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A
• A bowling pass to Acadiana Lanes

“Vacations and outdoor play increase during the summer months, which tends to bring an increase in the need for donations, but at the same time causes a decrease in the amount of available donors” said Donor Recruitment Representative Anne Swanson. “This blood drive is so important because it will help us keep up the supply over the summer months.”

The goal for this drive is 40 pints. United Blood Services supplies 50 South Louisiana hospitals in 32 parishes with 250 pints of lifesaving blood daily.

Anyone who is at least 16 years old, weighs at least 110 pounds, and has a valid photo ID is eligible to donate. Parental permission is required for 16 year olds and certain height and weight requirements apply for those 17-22. All donors must pass the vital signs and health history examinations given prior to donation.

Donors can now complete part of the interview in the convenience of their own home or office by doing their interview online the day of their drive. To do this, donors should go to www.unitedbloodsystems.org and click on the “Health History Questionnaire” then bring a hard copy of the printed ticket with them to their donation. The health history must be completed the same day as the donation; it cannot be completed a day or two ahead of time. You can also complete the questionnaire your tablet or smart phone while waiting
