The LSU Tigers are on the search for a new head baseball coach to replace the retiring Paul Mainieri. The rumor mill continues to swirl and a new name has emerged as a top candidate.

On Wednesday, D1Baseball's Kendall Rogers, a prominent name in the world of college baseball reporters, took to Twitter to report that former Oregon State coach Pat Casey is the leading candidate.

Pat Casey coached at the college level for 31 years before deciding to step away after winning his third College World Series title with Oregon State in 2018. Since then, he has been in an administrative role for the Beavers, but has never ruled out a return to the diamond.

Casey is 62 years old and his son, Joe Casey, is an outfielder for Oregon State.

Rogers did further explain his scoop on this potential hiring, noting that LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward has a desire to bring in an experienced coach. That certainly would be the case for Casey, with his over 900 career wins.

Now, Tigers fans are not quite ready to look forward to 2022 just yet. They have a Super Regional to focus their attention on.

After bouncing back from an opening day loss in the Eugene, Oregon Regional last week to Gonzaga, the Tigers would win four straight games to move on to the next round. (Central Connecticut State, Gonzaga, Oregon (twice)).

LSU will travel to Knoxville to face SEC foe and #3 seeded Tennessee Volunteers for a best-of-three series. The first game is Saturday, June 12 at 6:00 pm on ESPN 2.

Game two of the series will be on Sunday, June 13 at either 11:00 am or 2:00 pm on ESPN 2. The "If Necessary" game would be on Monday, June 14 at either 3:00 pm or 6:00 pm with the game being on ESPN 2 or ESPNU.
