New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Garrett Grayson had guarded, but lofty expectations coming out of Colorado State.

The Saints, led by future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees, used a 3rd round pick on Grayson in the 2015 draft, leading many to believe he may take over as the starter when Brees decides to hang up the cleats.

However, Grayson has struggled to stay in the league, never earning the job as primary backup to Brees, eventually being cut and signing with the Saints practice squad.

He signed a future/reserves deal with New Orleans earlier this month, leaving the door slightly open for a real future with the Saints.

As Mike Triplett reports on espn.com, Grayson is training this offseason in Gainesville at the University of Florida's sports campus.

There, Grayson is reunited with his head coach at Colorado State, Jim McElwain.

McElwain, now the head coach at Florida, is happy to have his former QB under his tutelage.

“It’s one of those deals that when you get into coaching, you really mean that you’re gonna be there for these guys and help in any way you can, even after they’re done playing for you. This is just an example of that,” McElwain said.

Hats off to McElwain for being true to his word. Time will tell if he can help Grayson develop into a better pro.
