In case you didn't know, this Sunday, August 27 is National Cinema Day.

To celebrate, participating movie theaters across the country are offering $4 movie tickets and other great deals. More than 3,000 theaters are participating nationwide.

So that means you can save some decent money on hits out right now like "Barbie," "Blue Beetle," "Oppenheimer" and other newly released films.

IMAX and other premium formats are even included in this deal.

This one-day event was the brainchild of The Cinema Foundation, which launched the first National Cinema Day last year.

It was surely a hit in the inaugural launch. Variety reported that over 8 million people went to the movies for last year's National Cinema Day.

"Following the rousing success of the first annual National Cinema Day, we welcome everyone to join us for the communal experience of one of America's favorite pastimes: moviegoing," Cinema Foundation President Jackie Brenneman said in a press release.

"We look forward to gathering at the movies and celebrating an exciting slate of new releases and classics, from beloved family favorites and outrageous comedies to thought-provoking dramas and thrilling adventures."

More bargains to be had than just the cheap tickets

In addition to $4 movie tickets, some theaters are offering other promotions to go along with the reduced-price tickets. For example, Regal theaters are offering a $4 small combo concession offer. They're also expanding their show schedule to offer more screenings.

To find out more about National Cinema Day and see which theaters are participating near you, visit NationalCinemaDay.org or your local theater's app or website.

Where in Acadiana can I get the $4 tickets?

We did a little digging, and we found at least three theaters in the Lafayette area that will be participating in National Cinema Day.

Those locations are:

The Grand - Ambassdor, Facebook
The Grand - Ambassador, Facebook

There surely may be more Acadiana area theaters participating in the day. If you know of any others that are taking part in National Cinema Day, let us know and we'll add the location to this list. Otherwise, enjoy the movies!
