On late Saturday, June 24, the Grand Isle Police Department confirmed the body of a male was found after that person fell into the water near Grand Isle.

Around 4:30 pm on Saturday a captain with the Grand Isle Police Department said several agencies were searching for a man who didn't make it back to shore near Grand Isle Park.

The man was reportedly fishing on the rock jetties about 100 feet offshore with his family. The man did not make it back to shore while everyone he was with did.

Family members told authorities that the victim did not know how to swim.

Lafourche water rescue patrol, the Grand Isle Fire Department, Grand Isle Police, and the Coast Guard all responded.

The Coast Guard dispatched a boat and helicopter to aid in the search. Unfortunately, the search ended with a body recovery.

The identity of the male has not been released by law enforcement.
