Just before 1:30 Thursday morning, Lafayette firefighters responded to 315 Brookside Drive after they were alerted about a house fire there.

The fire was reported to the fire department by a witness who notice smoke coming from the roof of the home.

The family was just getting out of the home when firefighters got to the scene.  The family woke up when the smoke detectors started going off.

Firefighters say the fire started in the attic and then spread to the roof.  Firefighters battled the fire for about 30 minutes before getting it under control.

The home sustained heavy fire damage to the attic and roof area.

The interior of the dwelling sustained heavy water and smoke damage.

The owners,  Mark Menou, his wife, and daughter were awakened by the sound of the smoke detector.

No one was injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
